School: University High School, Grade 12

Three words that describe me are: perceptive, energetic, and relentless

How long I have been in Math for Service: 4 years

About me: I volunteer at MFS because I hope to help other children grow up with STEM like I did. Most jobs today are STEM based, so if a child becomes involved in STEM early, they will have a huge advantage in life. One of the most important things I've learned was just how much procrastinating can harm a group. There’s so much to be done on a day to day basis at OC Science that putting off a task can be extremely detrimental to everyone else. I plan to bring my enthusiasm and love for science and teaching to MFS, and I hope to allow as many people as possible to enjoy STEM like I do.

  • Maggie Zhang +

Position and Organization: Vice President of Education of OC Science

School: University High School, Grade 12

Three words that describe me are: driven, curious, caring

How long I have been in Math for Service: 4 years

About me: MFS has such an enormous reach and impact on thousands of students in Orange County. I volunteer because I love being able to contribute to this community of passionate individuals. Before volunteering, I was one of the shyest kids in my school, unable to talk to anyone I didn’t know. Through MFS, I’ve learned how to better communicate my thoughts in order to convey my ideas to other people, and I've improved my leadership abilities.

About me: Since I was a little kid, I was always passionate about the curious world of science. Thus, as a high-schooler, I decided to volunteer for OC Science in order to spread my interest among others in my community and work with fellow students that share my interests. Through my volunteer work with OC Science, I learned that anyone can make a difference in the world. The smallest thank yous after an event to the faces that light up after grasping a difficult concept are all evidence that we are positively impacting these lives. I will contribute my passion for science as well as my dedication to our mission to ensure that OC Science continues to expand and help the community.

I also hope to reach out to students in underserved communities and provide them with opportunities to learn science through hands-on activities.

  • Tu Trinh +

    Name: Tu Trinh

Position and Organization: Vice President of School Chapters of OC Science

School: University High School, Grade 12

Three words that describe me are: curious, passionate, inclusive

How long I have been in Math for Service: 4 years

About me: I volunteer MfS due to my enormous passion for STEAM. I’m now serving as VP of School Chapters for the second year. I simply love contributing to the community. I’m especially rewarded for my efforts when I see the bright faces of children who discover new ideas at our events. MfS taught me how to be a better leader. Before, I was afraid to speak up in large crowds and allowed myself to be pushed around by my peers. Now, I am more confident when conveying my thoughts and how to make firm decisions while also respecting others’ opinions. MfS taught me how to be a better leader. I want to increase OC Science’s school chapters to have an impact on at least 20 high schools by the end of the year. I plan to organize new events to always bring innovation to the community. Finally, I want to volunteer as much as possible to help spread knowledge.
